Winter/Spring Programs
WINTER/SPRING 2024-25 COMPETITIVE TEAM:
This is open for students in the Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia region in grades 8-12 for the 2024-25 school year. Our competitive winter/spring season is anticipated to begin Monday, December 9th and run through the middle of March when we transition to the water.
Anticipated Practice Times & Information: From December through March, our athletes train six days a week indoors for 2 hours using ergs, weights, and other equipment. The emphasis is on building strength while maintaining flexibility and endurance. It is during these cold winter months that the athletes "earn" their achievements later in spring. The winter period is required of all athletes in order to train and race in the spring. The only exceptions to this are athletes who are doing a high intensity sport in the winter (like swimming or basketball). Please contact us to discuss!
In March we transition to the water down at the boathouse. Training remains six days a week, for 2.5 hours a day, and will mix erg workouts with mostly on-water rowing. Boats will be selected based on each athlete's ability to make a boat go fast. Erg scores in addition to technique and watt/weight measurements all contribute to how a coach fills a boat. We will race as many boats as we can during race season.
Winter Season - Monday-Friday: 3:30-5:30pm OR 5:30-7:30pm
Spring Season - Monday-Friday: 5:00-7:30pm
Winter Season - Saturday: 7:00-9:00am OR 9:00-11:00am
Spring Season - Saturday: 7:30-10:00am
**Final confirmation depending on logistics and coaching preferences will be provided 1-2 weeks prior to winter season start date. For winter training, expect a rotating erg & weight lifting schedule between 2 locations:
- Indoor erg training: Moorestown Mall at 400 Route 38 in Moorestown, NJ
- Indoor weight lifting facility/outdoor training: Camden County Boathouse at 7050 N Park Drive in Pennsauken, NJ
Anticipated Spring '25 Racing Schedule: TBA - races are competitive, and seats in each boat are determined by ability, effort and attendance. We will race in the spring at various tune-up races, but our main focus is the USRowing Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in mid-May. In total, we will race in 4-6 races during the spring. Our top placed boats from Mid-Atlantics will advance to the USRowing Junior National Championships in June in Sarasota, FL.
Cost: $2150 in full at time of registration, or in 3 installments - financial assistance & discounts available!
***8th grade athletes have the option to do either the Competitive Winter/Spring Season or Middle School Programs (see below). If you are unsure which 8th grade option to choose for your child, please email Marisa Cohen & Cait Leggett at mrc.coopercommodores@gmail.com and they will help you decide!
WINTER/SPRING 2024-25 MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS:
We run a variety of recreational programs that will meet once a week for several weeks in both the winter and spring. These programs are meant to be fun, to keep an interest in rowing, and are great for those new to the sport or who want to continue their rowing development. Athletes will focus on rowing basics as well as refining technique during winter indoor training, including proper erg use and cross-training, and then experience water time in the spring - plus a fun introduction to MRC's culture! Sessions are on weekend mornings, and will run for 5 or 6 weeks. See our registration page for availability!
